Getting Ready

Okay...moving on...shall we?

It's bitterly cold here. The sun is out and my tulips and daffodils are peeking out from their winter blankets of leaves with such hope. Every time I walk past them, I think not yet little friends; wait just a little longer.

I'm ridiculously hopeful for spring. Stroller walks, gardening, shorts, flip flops, backyard barbecues, camping, SUN!

I almost bought Jackson sunscreen at Target today. But I decided that wasn't exactly a necessity just yet. Someday soon though...right?

I'm thinking about planting a vegetable garden this year. What should I plant? What's easy for a first timer? I don't have much room, so I'm thinking beans and peas are out but what about carrots, peppers and lettuce?

Talk to me people...the old blog has been a little quiet lately.

Maybe this would work for you since you said you don't have much room (plus I love how neat and tidy it looks!)

The idea is a raised 4'x4' garden box, divided into 1'x1' squares, in which you plant your veggies.

I would try it, if I had the space, but we don't even have that much! :)

zucchini is really easy to grow, it grows like a weed, so don't plant more that two plants. I am planting a garden for the first time this year in this house. Fun, we will have to keep sharing ideas, what works and what doesn't work. See you soon!

I'd suggest carrots...They are plentiful and take up only a small amount of space. And I think that homegrown carrots are exceedingly flavorful.

I know you don't like tomatoes but seriously, there is nothing more delicious in the summer than cherry tomatoes off the vine! I don't recomend trying cucumbers. we tried last year and they were not successful. If you like jalepenos (sp?), they are small plants and grow really well in hot, sunny, dry areas. Are you going to grow any mums? They usually do really well and are easy to maintain. Plus, they flower for a long time and make great small vase arrangements.

We tried tomatoes last summer. They were great for a few months - until Henry decided to "weed." I've heard that squash (summer and zucchini) is really easy to grow. Maybe some strawberries? I can't wait to see what you decide on.
